FauxCreation.com
is the decorative finishes studio of Jernigan Studios, LLC.
Dawn Jernigan is the owner and sole proprietor of Jernigan
Studios, LLC, which includes FauxCreation.com and GBUNet.com,
a web site design and Internet marketing company. A lifelong
artist, Dawn has always produced art in some shape, form
or fashion. With the exception of five years serving her
country in the United States Air Force, Dawn’s career
has focused around commercial art and graphic design, including
the marketing and advertising aspects of commercial design.
With an early entry in web site design, by 1999 Dawn found
herself launching her own successful web site design and
Internet marketing business. By 2002 Dawn found her attention
wandering to more hands on creative expressions. Although
she continued running her web design business, her decorative,
faux finishes and mural painting hobby was beginning to consume
more of her attention and passion.
By 2003
Dawn was certain she wanted to expand her business to include a decorative finishes studio that offered murals, Trompe L'oeil, faux and specialty finishes and decorative painting. While her art studio was being built, she decided to seek instruction from some of the most successful
names in the decorative arts business. After competing studies
under Martin Alan Hirsch of The Decorative Finishes Studio
in Louisville Kentucky, Melanie Royals (Royal Design Studio)
Extraordinary Stenciled Effects integrated educational program, “Marvelous
Murals You Can Paint and More“ by Gary Lord and David
Schmidt (of Prismatic Painting Studio) and ”Great Paint
Finishes for a Gorgeous Home” home instruction series,
Dawn decided to take the plunge … with the result being
FauxCreation.com.
With a degree in Graphic Design and Commercial Art, and
the experience of founding and establishing a successful
web design business, and current partner in a lucrative Interactive Marketing agency Dawn Jernigan brings unique perspective to the
decorative finishes business, understanding both the commercial
and personal aspects of this rewarding field. You can view
examples of her murals, faux finishes and decorative painting
on the web site.

FAQ What is involved in a consultation?
At the initial consultation, you can share with us what you
have in mind for your room or wall. If you're not sure
what you want, we can make suggestions that work well with
your style, décor and the personality or feelings
you want to invoke with the space. We'll show you photographs
of our work as well as sample boards painted with different
techniques. This is the time for you to show us any reference
material you've gathered: photographs, magazine pages,
printed web pages, etc. Your input is the most important
element in helping us design a mural or finish that reflects
the look you want and that you love looking at.
We’ll
meet with you at the project area (your home or business),
so we can see the room(s). We'll measure the
walls, count windows and doors, and assess any other factors
that affect our estimate of cost and schedule. This initial
(first) consultation is free of charge. Additional consultation
time is billed at $95.00 an hour.
After the consultation, we'll provide you with a written
estimate detailing how much the job will cost, and how long
it will take. For murals, trompe l'oeil, and lettering, we'll
provide a sketch of the design for your approval. For intricate,
detailed faux or textured finishes custom developed for your
needs, we will provide a sample board for your review. Sample
boards and photos are an important business tool for us as
well as our intellectual property and as such remain the
property of Jernigan Studios, LLC. Clients may not keep sample
boards (even overnight), however design sketches for murals
are yours to keep. There is a cost incurred with design sketches
that covers our time and board costs are charged for materials
and labor (see chart below).
How much will it cost?
Murals are individually tailored so we can't give an estimate
without discussing the job in detail. Research time and
off-wall design time are critical steps. We will include
the price of research and design in the estimate, and we
will work with you to get the best results for your budget.
Several of our faux and decorative finishes are much more
complex than others in both application method, (troweled
on versus rolled or brushed) number of layers and number
of methodologies used. There also is a significant difference
in the cost of materials, depending on what finish you
choose. Naturally, these finishes may run slightly to significantly
higher than some of the samples listed. The size
of the area to be painted is a significant factor in cost.
The following cost sheet will help provide a general idea of
costs, although a consultation is the only way to calculate
exact costs. |

Do you offer discounts for multiple rooms, homes or jobs?
Yes, absolutely! We routinely offer discounts to custom homebuilders
with multiple jobs and to our clients that utilize our
services in multiple rooms and also multiple locations
(residence or business plus second or vacation homes).
Please let us know when arranging the initial consultation
if there will be multiple rooms or locations.
Do
you require a deposit?
Yes. We require 50%
of the estimated price at the time of commission, and 50%
upon completion of the project.
Do
you accept credit cards?
Yes. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.
What kind of paint /
products do you use?
We generally use standard
latex interior house paint and other water-based products.
This is environmentally safer,
makes for easier cleanup and faster drying time than oil-based
paints, and it also makes it easier to redo the surface
if someday you want to would decide to change the room.
If you have a brand preference, please let us know at the
initial consultation and we can usually accommodate this.
For specialty and decorator finishes we use specially designed,
professional products that are also water-based and environmentally
safe.
Is there anything I need to do before you come over to begin
the job?
Yes, please move/remove any furniture in the room that is
closer than 5 feet to the wall(s) to be painted. Also remove
any electrical switch plate coverings or light switches that
you do not want painted or finished. You may be asked to
remove light fixtures or ceiling fans, depending on the finish
being applied and the area being finished. For murals, it
is assumed that the wall to be painted is in good condition,
freshly painted with white paint (with a satin or pearl finish).
You may want to do this yourself or hire a house painter;
they can probably do it more cost-effectively than we can.
For decorative, faux finishes and textures, we'll ask you
to sign your approval for your choice of colors used. Depending
on the finish, you may need to have the wall painted in a
base coat first (that is not part of the specialty finish). In such cases, we will recommend a color, base and type of finish (usually
satin or pearl finish almost always 100% latex or acrylic). We can usually provide the base coat for
you if our schedule allows, however you or a house painter may be able do this
more cost-effectively. Please note: we don't paint trim (moldings
and window frames), unless we are applying a special decorative
or faux finish to them. We don't move furniture.
